An Earful of 2009

2010 is upon is, and it seemed fitting to pay a little tribute to 2009's top 10 sickest albums [in my opinion of course, you're entitled to your own] starting with numero diez.

#10
Humbug-- Arctic Monkeys
They say nothing good lasts. This seemed true for long-time love of mine Arctic Monkeys. Their album was still good of course, but after two consecutive amazingggg albums, this was sort of a let-down. ALEX TURNER I STILL LOVE YOU!

#9
Hands-- Little Boots
Cutie patootie olivia hesketh basically had me singin "I'm gonna take you out tonight! I'm gonna make you feel alright!" every fucking second of the day. Catchy shit, stuck on repeat.

#8
Them Crooked Vultures-- Them Crooked Vultures
Fucking badass for a group of old men. Love dave grohl especially.

#7
Manners-- Passion Pit
Nothing like MGMT despite the plethora of comparisons. Manners was refreshing and i really dig that new synth-pop-indie type sound. The shrill voice in sleepyhead will never be forgotten.

#6
Walking on a Dream-- Empire of the Sun
Shit, i actually think this might have been released in 2008...but oh well. Amazing. Hit it off hard for their first album. Every track was diverse and better than the last. Hella memorable.

#5
The Xx-- The Xx
The soft-spoken Xx crooned me to bed every night with their soft, minimalist tunes. Living proof that less is more.

#4
Guns Don't Kill People Lazers Do-- Major Lazer
Dude, it's Diplo & Switch, I didn't expect anything less. More than mad decent dude. Mad fuckin sick. Pon de floor= most played track of 2009 for sure. Way to kick trance's ass.

#3
I Love You-- Amanda Blank
Oh hay homegurllll, you are a real cat. Blank's got a dirty mouth and probably an even dirtier mind. She takes it a notch further-- Blank raps about what everyone's thinking but too embarrassed to outright admit--
S-E-X. Amanda Blank, I love you. "Youda hottest muthafucka on the whole damn block."

#2
Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix-- Phoenix
After 3 albums that didn't fare too well, Phoenix's latest album was a huge success. Phoenix's album had the musical technicality of intellectuals but also the creativity of artists. Combined was an album that virtually lacked nothing and left me a Lizstomaniac through and through.

#1
Veckitamest-- Grizzly Bear
Sick sick sick sick sickest shit.

An Earful of Hot

Hot Chip is BACK. After Made in the Dark's ubiquity and hype died down...we just kind of never saw Hot Chip. I was starting to wonder where the hell they went-- mysterious plane crash? Kidnapping? Got roofied and date raped? I don't really know but I'm glad to find that they're back. Their first single, Take It In is a bit different from the more dance-y "Do it do it do it do it do it do it now" of Made in the Dark.
But, unsurprisingly is just as catchy and dance-able.

An Earful of Copycats

Tik Tok and Pop the Glock.

They even SOUND similar...way to steal Uffie's swagga you impostor. But I gotta admit Tik Tok is damn catchy but nothing compares to this insanity:

I GOT SOMETHIN MCS CAN KISS.

An Earful of Mellow

I'm feeeling like quite the mellow yellow right now. I will openly admit I'm a bitch & whiner. I'm sitting here at 11:57 PM on the first day of christmas break while my friends are out getting obliterated. Bwahhh. I am currently binging on some random gift basket shit. I don't even really know where this mysterious basket came from, but when I got home not too long ago I saw a massive, tacky-ass, white thing right in the middle of our kitchen table. It had tons of gross christmas-y edibles oozing out of it so i grabbed a santa-shaped chocolate. That's right santa, I will eat you. Give me coal-- see if i care bish!! Actually I'm having quite a jollly good time eating his head off...

chocolate + Chad van Gaalen -- Willow Tree + No Age-- Losing Feeling + Oneida-- I will Haunt You

nomz. goodluck to all with exams/PARTY IT UP FOR THOSE WHO DONT. [dont folllow my example]

An Earful of Legends

By now, most of you have probably heard about the new rock super-group, Them Crooked Vultures. The band consists of Dave Grohl [Foo Fighters, Nirvana], John Paul Jones of Led Zep, and Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme. This band is just...its just sick. So apparently rock and roll is going through some tough times, which makes me want to cry, but TCV is def trying to revive rock n roll.

"Rock'n'roll doesn't exist anymore. Sure people are playing rock from every era, and musicians are producing their idea of what rock'n'roll should be. But, the epitome of rock music, the explosive sensation of sound, youth, and fury has become a part of history. Today we are left with music that duplicates or fits into already tried and established forms. Is this representative of the first decade of this new millennium?" Reading this article made me cry. I'm a huge fan of electro, house, and new-waveish type stuff but still, I don't want R & R to die : [. If i had to choose one over the other, I don't know which I'd pick. Hmm, quite the pickle. Quite frankly I DONT LIKE BEING IN PICKLES MUCH. I like eating them though.

ughhhhhh stupid. I'm going to go wallow in my sorrow.

Anyways, check it:

Them Crooked Vultures-- New Fang

Techno Tuesday

Today I was so groggy. I'm not really sure why, but I was just one big ball of drool today. Pleasant. So I've been listening to some hella upbeat electro/techno choooons

CHECK IT:

Tuesday Playlist:

The Prodigy-- Invaders must Die [Yuksek remix]
Machines Don't Care-- Afro Jacker
Boys Noize-- Shine Shine [Shadow Dancer unreleased mix] oh man, this combines the best of both worlds. BOYS NOIZE AND SHADOW DANCER. How delizzzioussss
Surkin vs. Grum-- Next of Mexico [Cryptonites Edit]
Hostage-- Valhalla
BURNS-- Turbo [JOTS remix]
diggin that dubbbbb. BLAUUU reminds me of caspa. nomnom, caspa is orgasmic.

and sorry, just couldn't help myself : ]
Bloody Beetroots-- Warp 1977 Can you say, earsex? I can.

and also, just an observation, but did anyone else pick up the fact that Warp 1977 combines both Warp 1.9 AND Warp 7.7...to make Warp 1977? Was that done purposely or am i just weird?

An Earful Of Indie.

Ahh today has been a manic monday. [tehee alliteration]

i had my APUSH exam and Physics exam back to back. fan fucking tastic. But it was aite, at least that shits OVERRR. I treated myself to some frozen yogurt after school and silently huzzah-ed. The hardest part of my week is already over and now i can CHILL DOWN.

SO, i am in dire need of some new headphones. These WESC ones are on my x-mas wishlist....but i saw this and i almost cried.

seriously UO?! FUCK YOU. Go get more headphones...good for nothing...

Anyways on to Indie Monday...here's what i've been listening to today:

The Hold Steady- Hot Soft Light
The Unicorns-- I was Born [a Unicorn]
The Spinto Band-- Mr Blue Sky [ELO cover]
Department of Eagles-- No One Does it Like You

This last song is amazing. I saw the Heartless Bastards in Austin this past summer when they opened for Jenny Lewis. No offense to Jenny, I mean, she was good, but fuck, Erika Wennerstrom's voice is...mind-blowing. It's husky not whiny, and goes down as smooth as a scotch on the rocks. Scotchy scotch scotch. Down Erika goes, down into my belly...

the arsonist has oddly shaped feet.
Heartless Bastards-- The Mountain

heartless bastards. what studs.

Le Castle Vania-- Nobody Gets Out Alive
